Day at the beach

R took a day off yesterday and we went to the beach. Driving over the mountains to get there we could see the fog that had rolled in like thick clumps of cotton candy. Oh well its summer, thought i, and in summer its always cold and foggy by the beach :-)

We got there around 1pm. We had packed some crackers and cheese, potato chips, water and 1 bottle of beer. The weather was definitely on the cooler side (about 14 degrees celsius). R changed into shorts and we both put on our sweaters as we walked over to the sand. Despite it being a wednesday the beach was surprisingly crowded. It was mainly populated by one big gang of kids out on a day trip from school or something. There must have been about 40 kids and a few long haired dudes marshalling out commands to them military style.

Just as we stepped on the sand we saw the sign: No alcohol allowed on the beach at any time.

That was it, R couldn't stop cribbing. He went on and on about what kind of a place this was if you couldn't have beer on the beach. I told him...try and enjoy whats there on the beach, stop cribbing b'cos you can't have a drink. He wanted to sneakily have it, but i wasn't going to allow the day to be spoiled by him getting a ticket for drinking on the beach. The sand was pretty nice and warm, which told me it must have been sunny earlier. And it was nice to just dig your feet in the sand and sit there amidst all the seagulls and kids playing (those other than the ones who were being made to do cruel exercises by the long haired dudes...ok i am half joking, the kids were having fun anyway).

We noticed one of the seagulls that came and stood near us had clips on its feet. The metal clip had a number on it..it was obviously being tracked like a prisoner on parole...poor thing. (just kidding...).

A few hours later we wrapped up and went to a nearby restaurant on the beach so R could actually have some beer. I ordered salad and he ordered fries. The salad was full of leaves that were brown on the edges. Seriously how does anyone have the gall to serve a salad when it can clearly be seen that the leaves have edges that are all brown? Anyway I just shared the fries.

We walked around the town a bit after that. The town of C is cute. Lots of houses with flowers in their frontyards. Lots of wild shrubbery and flowers creeping along the walls alongside the little paths. And a little less order than you usually see in a usual beachside town, which gave it a little character and made it feel charming. There were fewer stores than usual in a touristy beach downtown. And to go with all that, less parking too, so thats something to remember. We definitely want to go back there again.

We then headed home and settled down to "Law and Order" and the perfect cup of tea with ginger cookies. What more could you want for a pleasant evening?
