Papa's arrived!

1:30am: Early this morning or late last night..whichever way you put it...Papa finally arrived!! Which means a few things:

1) My due date is even closer now than before!
2) Lots of yummy food..goody-goody-gumdrops :-)
3) R gets me to stop bugging him to do things for me
4) Breakfast, lunch and dinner will actually be part of the daily routine
5) R has to put up with Papa and me incessantly chattering about everything under the sun while he is busy trying to watch tv
6) Did i mention yummy food?

So this morning i woke up around 9:30 and as soon as i got out of the bedroom i was welcomed by the smell of frying eggs and toast. Papa was standing at the counter and having breakfast. And true to his habit, the kitchen counter was spotless and the sink empty. I had tea and Papa wanted to make breakfast for me. Upma! said I...and in a jiffy there was Papa's upma with the carrots and cashews and all that good stuff. If you have to taste any one thing that my Dad makes, make it the Upma. He throws together a mean upma.

About an hour or so later R wakes up and takes up his usual position exercising the remote controls. Papa and me sat on either side of him and went chitter-chat-chitter-chat. He was trying to watch some program about the end of time on c-span but heh...heh..he didn't quite get to watching it. (well its not everyday that he gets to be disturbed by a different point of view like that).

Breakfast done and Papa starts getting restless. The book he is reading is too boring for a fine saturday morning and so he decides he is going to try to clean out our garage. I think when me and Papa are both bored at the same time, it probably makes R a bit nervous...he doesn't understand it when we have all this sudden energy to just do something. I think it runs in the genes...from Ammachi to Papa to me. When we want to do something, we just have to do it.

While we spend an hour or two cleaning out the garage, R tries to beat his nervous tension by keeping the tv on and then snoozing in front of it curled up like a cat. I explain to Papa that he's not really watching the program...he just needs that monotonous sound of some intellectual talk all the time. (try switching off the tv and you'll wake him up in an instant, with protests that he was listening all along) I suppose in some vague way he probably thinks that his subconscious mind will register all that information even when he is asleep and maybe make him more intelligent. (oh mercy...)

A couple of hours of cleaning and then i have to scold Papa to stop. Afterall, we need something to exhaust our energy tomorrow also right? Anyway one corner of the garage is actually looking tidy now. Hurray for Papa.

The afternoon is now pretty pleasant and Papa and I sit outside in the sunshine, Papa drinking beer and we continue to chitter-chat about everything in the world. This is what backyards are for...cozy afternoons watching the birds and squirells, drinking beer (or tea in my case) and chatting away with no particular motive. Evening comes and me thinks some onion/potato bajji would be nice. Papa is on the task again making his own exclusive brand of bajji (pakora). In the meanwhile Mom calls and fires off a military style drill instructions to Papa: Make her eat this, make her do that, don't let her do this.... etc etc. But Papa being the sweetheart he is, just says says yes to everything to Mom and ofcourse does not bother me with any of it :-) Heh heh...Mom if you are reading this i can hear your complaints right here. But then what are Mom's for if not for continuously being at our backs?

We had a bottle of mezcal and a bottle of tequila that we'd brought back from mexico. Papa tries the mezcal with lemonade and a wedge of lime. He says it tastes wierd and i explain to him that its actually just a kind of mexican charaayam, so obviously he shouldn't expect any refined taste. Meanwhile R goes and studies the bottle of mezcal and exclaims "Did you see the worm in here?" Papa then decides he doesn't want to finish that drink after all. I explain to him that in tequila and mezcal it is very common to see a worm in the drink b'cos the plant where its extracted from has a lot of worms in it. And you can't blame the company for not disclosing the contents of their product, b'cos the label of the bottle clearly shows a nice smiling worm :-)

A couple of more hours pass and then its time for dinner. Now what? Papa makes Kappa, my favourite. We sit and debate the merits of the safety systems in US/Canada while R takes a shower. (we debated for a very long time, I am sure you understand that...). Dinner done and we get a call from Achan and Amma. Papa had cut a plate of mangoes for us. I handed the plate to R while talking on the phone. By the time the conversation on the phone was over, the mangoes were gone...R asks me innocently..."Did you want to have them too?" Oh well...never a dull moment is there?

We also called R and S and tried hard to make ourselves heard to li'l RK. Heard he is a real gunda in his local ilaaka. Way to go RK!!! No point in being shy and timid :-)

And now i hope this blog posting will also be seen by them before S starts out for travelling this afternoon. Ciao folks. More rambling from me later on.
